Polymer concrete is also sand and epoxy. Very common in the industry as machine base, and not unknown to audio people: http://www.auditorium-23.de/Verdier/Platine.html...
1) Whatever it is, in the WLM speakers the PAC driver is not tweeter but a MF driver. My definition of tweeter is that it is a driver that covers frequency range AFTER a MF channel. There is no dedicated M...

A moron would ask - is the best tweeter that I heard? I clearly have no idea and do not view the things in this way. A tweeter is not a self-contained element but it is an organic ingredient of the rest of installation.Rg...

Still, among the 0.000000001% of all people who do audio and who do accidently have a listening consciousness AND at the same time do have and interest in subjects of “Abstract Audio” there is “thinking”. Rgs, Romy the ca...

No wonder 4-bit DSD sounded so good. 5-6bit ~3Mhz is how most of the ADCs and DACs work anyway. In principle I am in favour of not changing the sample rate. However the problem I see is the 7th order noise shaping. This is done by combining 3rd and 4...

Hello!I hadn´t cared about the topic for years, but recently I informed myself about SACDs and DVDs at Amazon. The product range is still ridiculous, yet I find it has at least "started to start". But it seems to have happened what I expected at...

If the laptop as a frontend is really that important, this would be my choice:

Since the Lavry has a master clock, you should look into firewire devices that have a word clock input. I'm not sure about the Fireface, but the MOTU should have that.
Why an external devi...

In my opinion the trend towards AMTs in mainstream audio ist justified. They integrate very well with direct radiator midranges, even when they are crossed low. They are more dynamic and detailed than fabric domes, but not absolutely unforgiving. The...

Strangely something similar happened in digital reverbs. The first really sophisticated reverb (in 1983) was the Quantec QRS which was some kind of acoustic raytracer (no single microprocessor is powerful enough to emulate it so far) and so profited ...

In my audiophile past with poor resolution speakers (Spendor BC1) I used to listen to puristic recordings like Telarc with compressor to get the late reflections on audible levels. I felt that distorted imaging is better than no imaging. I loved east...

Would you please define the difference between imaging and soundstage to those who haven´t been around here for long?...

I think a cool direction to go might be to use a naked fibers or soaked cloth, I never tried but I would if I were in driver making business, Rgs, Romy the caT
Some years ago, when I discovered a Coles tweeter w...

I don´t wonder at all that they achieved the best results with traditional Washi and not with modern paper. The only material that comes close is Nepali Lokta paper. And labour cost are near to nothing there. Would be funny to fight against...

I have even done the opposite with cones I found harsh-sounding: Apply a layer of glycerol and let it pour in, so that it has the tendency to suck moisture out of the air. The disadvantage: Sound becomes very dependent on humidity....

I didn´t have a chance to listen, but I am very interested in the lower cost polyethylene drivers. When I first read this I thought it is a joke. I wonder how that sounds.Seems that in home audio the horns are currently more popular than th...

There are Penderecki recordings sold under the Polskie Nagrania label that are also very interesting from an audiophile point of view. My favourite among the latest 20th century (and today) composers is Kaija Saariaho....

JBL developed the PT-Waveguides not only because they are easier to produce. They also have less harmonic distortion than biradial horns. Disadvantage: They look far less funky....

Here is the link:http://www.rank-concept.deI have no experience with the Lamm ML-series, I just listened to an M-series hybrid amp combined with the Watt/Puppy 8. This performance was a single fake (though a pleasant one). I can´t say where was the f...

Some facts:The Japanese horn scene uses colored amps like 300B and prefers to buy Japanese amps.American horns are mostly slightly modified pro gear, quite a bit away from the price range Lamm has in mind, so the market there is not larger than that ...

The Podzus-Görlich drivers use a special hard foam that was invented by Podzus in the 1930ies (Who would think about loudspeakers in first place after inventing a new material today?). I tried to find out more about it, but I failed. The problem...
